2013 Typhoon Relief Benefit for the Philippines
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (November 20, 2013) - A broad coalition of community leaders and organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area have teamed up to help raise disaster relief funds on behalf of 10.3 million affected, over 4 million left homeless, thousands still missing and nearly 4,000 lives claimed by Typhoon Haiyan (known locally as Yolanda), as reported by the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as of November 18th, Manila time.
The "Bay Area Typhoon Recovery Benefit for the Philippines" is supported by a number of elected and appointed officials serving as honorary co-hosts, including Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Senator Leland Yee, Assemblymember Rob Bonta, Assemblymember Phil Ting, S.F. Board of Supervisors President David Chiu, S.F. Supervisor Malia Cohen, S.F. Board of Education Trustee Matt Haney, San Jose City Councilmember Ash Kalra, Hon. Fiona Ma, Hon.
